Christmas Dreams is a Portuguese sweet, traditionally consumed during the Christmas season.
Christmas dreams are fried, round and have a golden exterior color and a yellowish interior of pumpkin or carrot. Its typical ingredients include milk, lemon peel, salt, wheat flour, eggs and oil for frying. In order to eat here at home, I turned a basic recipe into a vegan recipe.
Some tips:
Stuffing – I used pumpkin but it also works well with carrots.
Milk – replaces with coconut vegetable drink.
Egg – Vegan flaxseed egg but they can perfectly use apple puree.
Flavor – Lemon or orange peel while cooking the pumpkin.
Flour – wheat, spelled or a gluten-free mixture.
The dream dough is prepared in several steps, involving boiling the milk with the lemon peel and flour and adding the eggs. Frying follows, with spoonfuls of dough in hot oil, shaped into a ball, which must be fried on both sides. During frying, dreams usually find themselves alone.
Finally, they can be served sprinkled only with sugar, with a combination of sugar and cinnamon or with a syrup.
